Brushed finish stainless steel sheet (also called No. 4 satin finish, #4 brushed finish, or satin polished stainless steel sheet) is a flat-rolled steel product with a unidirectional, satin-textured surface. The brushed surface is created by passing cold-rolled stainless steel through abrasive polishing belts in a single, consistent direction. A 150 to 240 grit abrasive produces the standard No. 4 directional grain pattern: short, parallel lines with a soft satin sheen. The finish hides fingerprints and minor surface scratches better than mirror-polished alternatives. It diffuses light rather than reflecting it sharply, which is why architects and interior designers favour it for high-traffic commercial spaces.
Stainlessinox LLP is an ISO-certified leading manufacturer and supplier of brushed stainless steel finish sheets from our processing facility in Khopoli, near Mumbai, backed by our main office in Lower Parel. Brushed stainless steel sheets are available in 4 subtypes: No. 3 (coarse, 100 to 120 grit), No. 4 (standard satin, 150 to 240 grit), No. 6 (fine, 240 to 320 grit), and Hairline / HL. No. 4 satin finish is the most widely specified for commercial and architectural use in India.

No. 3 finish is the roughest brushed option. It is produced using 100 to 120 grit abrasive belts that leave visible, directional polishing lines across the surface. The heavier grain pattern makes this finish well suited for industrial environments, heavy-use areas, and as a preparation surface for further polishing. Scratches blend into the coarser texture to simplify the maintenance in factory and warehouse settings.

Satin and brushed variants start with a No.4 directional grain or non-directional brushed texture before the ripple stamping process. Lower reflectivity helps mask fingerprints and surface marks. Elevator cabins, corridor panels, and office interiors benefit from the more understated appearance of these stainless steel decorative sheets.

This finish uses 240 to 320 grit abrasive for a smoother result. The grain lines are finer and less visible than No. 4, producing a soft, muted satin surface. Decorative panels, retail fixtures, and high-end interior projects specify No. 6 when a refined look is needed without the full reflectivity of a mirror polish. It isn't as common as No. 4, but it fills the gap between standard satin and polished finishes.

Hairline finish consists of long and continuous directional lines that run along the entire length of the sheet. Wide abrasive belts produce this uninterrupted grain pattern, which differs from the shorter strokes of No. 4 finish. The HL designation per JIS G4305 is standard in Japanese and East Asian markets. Architectural interiors, decorative wall panels, and elevator surrounds are common applications for HL finish stainless steel sheet in India.
Brushed finish stainless steel sheets serve 4 major application areas in India: kitchen and food service equipment, architectural cladding and interior design, elevator and escalator panels, and commercial furniture and fixtures.

Common questions about our brushed finish stainless steel sheets answered by our technical team.
Brushed finish stainless steel sheet is a flat-rolled stainless steel product with a unidirectional, satin-textured surface produced by abrasive polishing. The standard No. 4 brushed finish per ASTM A480 uses 150 to 240 grit abrasive belts to create short, parallel grain lines. The result is a soft sheen that hides fingerprints and diffuses light. It is also called satin finish, #4 finish, or SS brush finish sheet.
The difference is grit size and surface coarseness. No. 3 uses 100 to 120 grit for a coarse, visible grain suited to industrial areas. No. 4 uses 150 to 240 grit for the standard satin look specified in kitchens, elevators, and architecture. No. 6 uses 240 to 320 grit for a finer, smoother surface with less visible grain lines. No. 4 is the most commonly ordered variant in India.
150 to 240 grit abrasive belts produce the standard No. 4 brushed finish per ASTM A480. The polishing direction runs parallel along the sheet length, creating short, uniform grain lines. Coarser belts (100 to 120 grit) produce No. 3 finish, while finer belts (240 to 320 grit) produce No. 6 finish.
Standard sizes include 4 ft x 8 ft (1219 x 2438 mm), 4 ft x 10 ft (1219 x 3048 mm), and 5 ft x 10 ft (1524 x 3048 mm). Smaller cut sizes such as 1 ft x 2 ft, 2 ft x 4 ft, and 4 ft x 4 ft are also available. Custom cut-to-size sheets can be ordered per project specification. Thickness ranges from 26 Ga (0.46 mm) to 12 Ga (2.67 mm).
Yes. Our brushed finish SS sheets are supplied with removable PVC protective film on one or both sides. The film protects the satin surface from scratches, dirt, and handling marks during transport, storage, and installation. It peels off cleanly once the sheet is fitted in its final position.
Yes. Lengthwise grain (parallel to the rolling direction) is our standard. Widthwise grain (perpendicular to the rolling direction) is available on request. Grain direction matters for visual consistency when multiple sheets are installed side by side on walls, elevator panels, or ceiling cladding. Specify your preferred direction at the time of ordering.
Brushed finish (No. 4) has a muted, satin surface with visible grain lines, while mirror finish (No. 8) is fully reflective with no visible texture. Brushed finish hides fingerprints and scratches far better than mirror. Mirror finish shows every mark and needs frequent cleaning. Brushed sheets are more cost-effective to produce and maintain. Mirror finish is typically specified for luxury interiors, while brushed finish suits high-traffic, functional spaces.
